Parallelogram
The Project Parallelogram

Parallelogram is an exciting project funded by the PRS foundation for new music. The group have been commissioned to write a selection of new pieces of music to be performed in England and Scotland throughout 2007.

The People

The band comprises some of the heavyweights of the UK’s left of centre music scenes in the worlds of jazz and traditional music. Joining the members of Lau for this musical picnic are:

Brian Finnegan - Flutes/Whistles: Having Brian Finnegan of Flook on flutes and whistles is never gonna harm any band, if you haven’t heard Flook, maybe there’s no help for you, but you can visit www.flook.co.uk to try and make amends.

Pete Wareham - Saxophone: Pete’s band Acoustic Ladyland have ripped straight through the jazz scene and out into proper indie cred - Check out www.acousticladyland.com

John Blease – Drums/Percussion: Originally from Ayrshire, but now residing in London, John is one of the most remarkable young drummers to appear for a long time. You can hear john in action with the mighty Heritage Orchestra at www.theheritageorchestra.com

Oli Hayhurst - Double Bass/Bass Guitar: Oli is one of the most respected and sought-after bass players on the London jazz scene. He recently caught the world’s ear as one third of the Zoe Rahman Trio. Have a look at Oli’s website to see some of the many things he’s up to.

The Music
Broadly speaking this is a Jazz/Folk collaboration, but in rehearsals we hope we have found a sound that is not so much a fusion of two sound, but a new sound, homogeneous, interesting and at times fuckin rockin. As time progresses MP3s will be put up on this site.
