Sutton Folk Club (14th April 2007) Review by Kathleen Ambrose

A band featuring guitarist Kris Drever, the Horizon Award winner at this year's Radio 2 Folk Awards and fiddle player Aidan O'Rourke, Instrumentalist of the Year in Scotland's Traditional Music Awards 2007 has got to be a bit special. Along with local lad Martin Green, no slouch on the piano accordion, Lau treated the audience at Sutton Folk Club on April 14th, to a memorable night of high tempo self-penned and traditional tunes interspersed with the occasional ballad.

Technically brilliant, the trio performed with amazing energy, yet maintained a relaxed and easy manner throughout.

Their debut album Lightweights and Gentlemen was in demand in the interval and their second half performance ended with a standing ovation, the first in the folk club's eight year history. No mean feat considering Sutton's accomplished past guest list.

Lau are sure to take the Cambridge Folk Festival by storm this year. Don't miss them.
